Takeout Photo Fixer
Downloaded your Google Photos with Takeout and the dates are all wrong? Pick the unzipped Takeout folder and see exactly what's broken.
Runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded.
1. Choose your Takeout folder
Unzip every Takeout zip first, then choose the folder that holds them
(the one with Takeout inside).
Checking your files…
2. What we found
This doesn't look like a Google Takeout export.
We found photos but none of the .json files Takeout puts next to them, so there's nothing
to fix them from. Photos copied straight from a phone or a normal Pictures folder look like this.
Get a Takeout export at takeout.google.com (tick Google Photos only), unzip every zip, then choose the folder that holds them.

3. Fix it
We write the real dates and locations into your photos and save a clean copy, sorted into
Photos/2019/03-style folders, with duplicates removed. Your original Takeout folder
is never changed.
Fixing needs Chrome or Edge on a computer (other browsers can't save into a folder). The report above works everywhere.
Questions
- Why do my Takeout photos have the wrong date?
- What are the .supplemental-metadata.json files?
- Why does Takeout have duplicate photos?
Is it safe? Everything runs on your computer in the browser. Your photos are never uploaded, and your original Takeout folder is never changed.
